Description

A delicious twist on a classic! This easy stromboli recipe combines tender steak, melted mozzarella, and flavorful seasonings in a golden crust.

Ingredients

Scale

4. Ingredient List:
For the Dough:
3 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm water (105-115°F)
2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Filling:
1 pound thinly sliced steak (ribeye or sirloin)
8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
1 medium onion, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
Salt, pepper, garlic powder, Italian seasoning to taste

Instructions

5. Preparation Instructions:
1. Activate Yeast: Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl; let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
2. Mix Dough: Add flour, salt, and olive oil to yeast mixture; stir until a shaggy dough forms.
3. Knead Dough: Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
4. Proof Dough: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled.
5. Prepare Filling: Cook steak in a skillet over medium-high heat until browned; season. Add onions and peppers; cook until softened. Drain excess grease.
6. Assemble Stromboli: Roll out dough into a 12×18 inch rectangle. Sprinkle half the mozzarella on the dough. Layer steak and veggie mixture on top, then the remaining mozzarella.
7. Roll Stromboli: Tightly roll the dough from a long edge, tucking in sides. Seal edges and crimp with a fork. Score the top with slits.
8. Bake Stromboli: Preheat oven to 400°F. Bake stromboli on a greased baking sheet for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
9. Rest & Serve: Let stromboli rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving with marinara sauce.

Notes

Use store-bought pizza dough for a shortcut. Try provolone or Monterey Jack cheese for variations. Add jalapenos for spice. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
