1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 (28-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
6 ounces tomato paste
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon salt

Cheese Filling:
15 ounces ricotta cheese
15 ounces cottage cheese (optional)
2 large eggs
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Pasta and Other:
1 pound bow tie pasta (farfalle)
2 tablespoons olive oil (for cooking pasta)
1 tablespoon olive oil (for greasing dish)
Cooking spray or butter (optional, for greasing dish)

1. Prepare Meat Sauce: Brown ground beef in a large pot over medium-high heat. Drain excess grease. Add onion and garlic; cook until softened. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
2. Prepare Cheese Filling: Combine ricotta, cottage cheese (if using), eggs, Parmesan, mozzarella, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix until smooth.
3. Cook Pasta: Cook bow tie pasta al dente according to package directions. Drain well.
4. Assemble Lasagna: Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish. Layer meat sauce, pasta, and cheese filling in the dish, repeating layers and ending with meat sauce. Sprinkle with extra mozzarella.
5. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until bubbly and heated through. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Add vegetables like zucchini or bell peppers to the sauce or filling. Use different cheeses like provolone, fontina, or Asiago.
